美淋浴間簾幕 含有毒物質 聯合新聞網

洛杉磯時報13日報導，維吉尼亞州環保團體「健康、環境與公義」12日在一項報告中指
出，全美各地行銷的乙烯基材質淋浴間簾幕會釋出有毒的化學物質，嚴重危害身體健康。

研究人員指出，這種簾幕含有多種高濃度的化學成分，足以危害肝臟、中樞神經、呼吸與
生殖系統。報告執筆人夏德表示：「那種氣味令人極為不適，會令人頭痛、欲嘔，也會產
生其他危害。」

研究人員化驗購自五家大賣場的PVC塑膠材質淋浴間簾幕的化學成分，並檢驗其中一件
簾幕，，結果發現，它含有高濃度的鄰苯二甲酸鹽與濃度不一的有機錫劑。其中一件簾幕
會釋出108種有機化合物，其中一部分延續將近一個月。

Watch Out For The Shower Curtain

First it was lead in toys poisoning children across the country. Then it was
play-jewelry. Now the list of common items with toxic properties is ever
expanding – even to shower curtains.

A new report from the Center for Health, Environment and Justice found
“startling results” that vinyl showers shed 108 poisonous chemicals into
the air after being removed from the package, said Anne Rabe, a center
member.

The “new smell” of a fresh vinyl curtain is so toxic that contaminants can
continually be released into the air for 20 days, she said. The released
chemicals can cause headaches, nausea, liver, kidney and nervous
system damage and have even been linked to cancer in animals, Rabe
said.

Retailers must stop carrying these toxic curtains and the legislature should
introduce legislation to ban their sale, she said. The state should also
cease using these curtains in all state facilities, she said.

Families should shy away from chlorinated vinyl curtains, instead opting
for curtains marked as “chlorine-free” or fabric curtains, said the Citizens’
Environmental Coalition Executive Director Barbara Warren.

Most vinyl curtains can cost anything from $1 upwards, and
non-chlorinated plastic curtains are similarly priced, she said. Cloth
curtains cost about $9.99 and up, she said.
